To Whom it May Concern: Having just moved
to Kokomo from Evansville, we have been experiencing Eastern time for
the first time in our lives. It makes no sense to see children and
their parents traveling to work in the dark during the worse of winter
weather. It seems that the only thing some people are focused on is
coming home in the twilight, not that it will be dark when they get up
or send their children to school. Central time will also allow people
to get to bed a little earlier since the network shows will be over by
10:00PM instead of the 11:00PM as it is now. More sleep for everyone,
which could help everyone to do better at school and work. Business is
conducted 24/7 anymore, being one hour from New York, and two hours
from the West coast would not be that hard for businesses. This is a
people issue what is best for the majority of people. Sincerely,
S.L. Jones

I am in support of keeping the Central
Time Zone. I have 4 children and my oldest is 6 years old. I do not
want her waiting for the bus in the dark. My husband and I have a
terrible time trying to get our children in bed at 8:00pm because it
is still light outside. If it stays light until 10:00pm, this will
cause more problems. After the kids go to bed is the only time my
husband and I can sit and talk about the day. With it still being
light outside, the kids won't want to go to bed, and my husband and I
will no longer be able to have that free time to relax without the
kids. The crime rate will not go down since this will leave more time
for kids to be out playing late at night and doing things that they
shouldn't be doing. My husband is a truck driver, and he is in bed
before 10:00pm every night. He will not be able to sleep when it is
light out. Don't you think that we should have a vote when it comes to
interferring with our every day lives? My vote, Central Time Zone
should be left alone. Thank you, Amber

I just had a son, my first child, last
month. I cannot believe he'll be growing up in a community were he'll
have to wait for the school bus in the dark almost all year round and
go to bed while the sun is still up. How will I explain that to him?
We live in INDIANA, the "crossroads" of America. In the mid-west, not
the east coast. New York is 400 miles away, while Chicago is our next
door neighbor. I was excited to hear about the change to central time,
since both my wife's and my family live in Porter county, which
already observes central time. Now I am disgusted with our government
about this insane change of events. What a sad day for this state.
Thank you, Chris….

I work with software companies every day.
Currently I get more work done during the summer months due to the
fact we are only 2 hours ahead of the west coast instead of 3 during
the winter months. It is much easier to work with the New York being
an hour behind which never is a problem since most of them do not
arrive until 9 AM anyhow. During the winter months I usually have to
wait until the next day for responses due to the 3 hour delay, not
good. This does not include the work we do with the folks in Chicago.
On a more personal note I really hate having all the neighborhood kids
waiting in the dark for school buses in the dead of winter. My
daughter did it and I worried every day that someone would not see
her.

Dear Sir, I am deeply angered about
EDT. I read in an article in the Indy Star, that high twelve will be
at 1:50 pm. I have relatives in Kentucky who live further east than
Indianapolis and are on CDT. From the way Daniels talks, there are
businesses on the Indiana border with trucks waiting to come to
Indiana. By going to EDT we will alienate Chicago, Nashville, and
St.Louis. Nashville is almost parallel to Indianapolis and they are on
CDT. Their businesses aren't affected. I am a Democrat and did not
vote for Daniels, maybe next election every person who doesn't like
EDT will vote with me. signed, Andrew Wiley

Dear David, I am completely outraged at
the most recent article in the Indianapolis Star titled "No debate:
N.Y. time for most of us". I really feel the people of Indiana were
lied to during this debate over time. I myself am a huge supporter of
the Central time Zone. I live in Kingman, IN (west central Indiana)
and work in Danville, IL (central time zone). Now that our time zone
will be Eastern, this causes many problems and concerns for family as
outlined on your home page. This is such a hot issue for the citizens
of Indiana and Politics seems to have taken this over without even
considering how it affects the actual families that pay taxes and live
in this State.
What is Mitch Daniels excuse for this one? I would really like to know
where we go now? Something must be done to move Indiana into the time
zone it's fit for and that is the central time zone. Thank you.

David, I just wanted to write and tell you
that I support your position. I am a father of two young children and
I believe that the Central time zone would be in of all of our best
interest. I also work for Navistar- International Truck and Engine
Corp. with headquarters in Chicago and feel the move would better
alighn our plant with the corporate offices. Good luck in your
endeavor!! Thanks, Bonner H. Wilkinson II

Dear David, Thank you very much for
your website, research and knowledge regarding this hot topic of
daylight savings time. I live in Fountain County which borders
Danville, Illinois where the majority of our county and surrounding
counties work. The time change has a HUGE impact on our lives. My
husband and I finally made "roots" and bought our first new home in
Fountain County. Additionally, we have good jobs and are employed
across the "state line" in Illinois. Because we live in a rural area
the job market is not flourishing and we have to seek employment in
the neighboring state. Lafayette and Terre Haute are the closest "big"
cities (mind you that is 60 to 75 miles one way) but along with their
distance to travel, I don't need to remind us that the gas prices are
astronomical (currently $2.28 cents and rising) due to our
Conservative Administration. Plus, by working in these towns the hour
that you were trying to gain is now lost in the "hour to hour and
fifteen minute drive one way to those cities". So unfortunately job
hunting in these towns are now not an option.
Additionally, by working in Illinois and being an hour ahead year
round will force us take time off work to do banking/personal business
or attend family functions such as nieces and nephews school
activities. My husband and I hope to start a family of our own soon,
but with DST looming, hw would we arrange child care? Take our money
to Illinois, pay into their economy because our state government
passed DST without considering the entire impact? Same would hold true
for our shopping- instead of contributing to the local businesses, we
would have to purchase the majority of our household goods across
state lines because of the difference in work hours.
I am frustrated- a number of concerned Indiana residents are being
forced into an unnecessary situation, how can they make this work? My
employer is kind enough to allow some Indiana employees to work
Indiana hours throughout the winters months, but will not allow this
year round. Thus they must decide- abandon a good Illinois job where
they are liked, respected & happy to attempt to seek employment in
Indiana (you know, in our area, what the job market in Indiana is-
that why we are employed across state lines) or move the family to
Illinois.
We have been lied to by our own Governor. I hope my statements and
concerns help to pass Central Time in our respective counties.
Sincerely, Deborah Smith Covington, Indiana

You bet I'm for Central time. I have a
hard enough time getting my kids to bed at 8:00 pm in the summer. If
we're on Eastern time I'll probably fall asleep before them, and who
knows what they'll be doing while I'm asleep. Mark Wilson

I have an astronomical observatory. Like
most amateur astronomers, I like
to stargaze in the evening. If Indiana goes to eastern daylight, it
will
be nearly 11:30 in late June before I can use my telescope. That's
justridiculous!
We're too far west in our time zone for this. If we must go to
daylight time to make the feds happy, that's fine. But central
daylight is the only option that actually makes a modicum of sense.

I agree with keeping us Central Time. I am
an early morning worker and look forward to the early daylight to
drive in as soon as possible. Not everyone is interested in later
daylight but more interested in earlier daylight. Jon Korejwa

The entire state of Indiana lies in the
Central Time Zone geographically. I guess you would have to be a
complete moron not to understand that. People in other countries must
think that we are wacked to set ourselves up for "almost" high noon.

I am an avid stargazer. If we are to
observe eastern daylight savings time, it would be nearly 11:00 at
night in order for me to get a dark enough sky to be able to see
anything. Furthermore, after being out for a couple of hours, I would
have to take down my setup and sleep for only a few hours before
getting up to get ready for work. Why would we classify ourselves in
the eastern time zone when we are geographically located well within
the central time zone. I agree that Indiana should be observing DST,
but we should do it in such a way that makes sense. Apart from an
adverse affect on fellow stargazers such as myself, this will
seriously impact family function. I can reason with my two year old
that it's dark outside and time to go to bed... he lays down and
relaxes to fall asleep. I really don't want to be doing this at 10-11
at night.

We do the majority of business with

School Systems. Playing Gulf in the evening is not an important
factor. Really all of Indiana should be on Central time. Rayand

Hello, my name is Jon Arthur, along
with my wife Elizabeth, we both want to express our desire for Indiana
to be in the Cental time zone. There has been no, not one reason or
example to change our time zone to Eastern day light time. I have
heard of only one example from our opponents, who say that this will
add jobs. It will not add more jobs! It will not change the Indiana
economy for the better at all. We are also tired of Governor Daniels
telling us what is good for us and what we should do. I voted for Gov.
Daniels, and I can say that I am very disappointed in his tenure so
far. I he feels that ramrodding this legistration down our throats
will work, he is very mistaken. We will not let him add another term
to his list is this happens, regards, Jon and Elizabet
