Sidenotes
#1:
The Chamber of Commerce of Elkhart County in Indiana recently
conducted a survey, and found that 68% of their businesses preferred
to be in the Eastern time zone. However, when asked why they preferred
the Eastern time zone, the main reason was because many of their
employees come from Michigan and for their ( the Michigan residents )
convenience, preferred that time. Should Michigan residence have the
right to chose what time Indiana should be on ?
Sidenote #2:
After an examination of the sunrise data provided by Jeff Sagarin
(Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) S.B. Mathemactics,June
1970; Indiana University:
MBA-Quantitative Business Analysis,
May
1983), a shocking observation was
revealed.
If Indiana observes Eastern (time
zone) daylight saving time in 2006,children
will be waiting for the school bus
in the dark from August 16(pending on when school starts) through
April 20 , since the sun rises at 7:00 AM on August 16 and becomes
later and later with each passing day. This
morning darkness continues throughout the school year until April 20,
when the sun rises at 6:59 AM, and gets earlier with each passing day
until school gets out in May or June.
So with the passage of Eastern daylight savings time and remaining in
the Eastern time zone, school children will be forced to wait for the
school bus 8 months out of the year!!!
Important sidenote #3:
The only way we're going to turn the tide for
the Central time zone is: 1). write
a letter to your local newspaper to voice your support for the Central
time zone to get more people involved, 2). to have as many people show
up at the Department of Transportation hearings when they are held,
3). to voice your opinion to local officials about your desire to be
in the Cntral time zone, and 4). to send an e-mail to
joanne.petrie@dot.gov
. (very important). Joanne Petrie I understand is the individual that
is going to be responsible for holding the hearings throughout the
state, and the more e-mails she receives in support of the Central
time zone, the better it will be.
As individuals, we're ineffective. But as a coalition, we can make a
difference.
