Political expediency could backfire for GOP

Daylight-saving time is coming up next April not because of past confusion over time zones, or supposed loss of economic opportunity, or even because everyone else was doing it. No, it is coming because the Republican Party needed to try every means possible to ensure it keeps the majority in the Statehouse next election.

As I was told by Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Lizton, representatives who had won their districts easily in the last election had to cave in on this issue to help a few officials who were in very tight races in districts that supported DST.

I guess it's not supposed to matter if our representatives went against campaign promises or their own personal convictions; we would still vote for them in the next election, right? Wrong. This fiasco will prove to backfire on the Republicans, who already have enough trouble to deal with in the person of "One-Term Mitch."
