Indianapolis Star July 24, 2005 Daniels squandered political capital on DST Why anyone would be surprised by Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta's idiotic decision to deny Hoosiers a time zone hearing is beyond me. After all, the western-most edge of the geographic time zone boundary, Columbus, Ohio, is only about 100 miles from Richmond. That's close enough, isn't it? The bigger issue is that Mitch Daniels has managed to squander whatever political capital he had coming out of last November's election. He's rammed daylight-saving time down our throats in the wrong time zone, decreed homosexuals and cross-dressers a protected class of state employees, tried to slip an income tax increase past us (and failed, fortunately) and managed to stick us with the bill for a stadium for the Colts. Whoever said there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the parties hit the nail square on the head. Kent Rebman Brownsburg |
