Letters To The Editor -
Indianapolis Star July 24, 2005 Noon will arrive too early on Eastern time At 1:30 p.m., I was looking out my southern window and noticed that the shadows on the floor indicated the sun was still in the eastern half of the sky. I mused that shadows would still be cast to the west as late as 2:30 in the afternoon if Indiana were to adopt Eastern time year-round. Now the U.S. Department of Transportation says it will not hold hearings on which time zone Indiana belongs in. That apparently leaves us in the Eastern Time Zone, where "noon" and "afternoon" would arrive at least two hours early. But don't let that deter the feds or the Indiana Chamber of Commerce from declaring "noon" to be when the sun isn't even 70 degrees above the horizon. That's looney. I'll be waking up to lunch if this keeps up. Tom Heller Columbus |
