Letters To The Editor -
Indianapolis Star July 24, 2005 Pressure feds to permit public hearings on DST Daylight-saving time was rammed through the Indiana Legislature with the promise that we would have the opportunity to comment on whether we go to Eastern or Central time. Now, the feds tell us that only the counties can comment. This is government at its worst when the voice of democracy does not allow for the citizens of Indiana to give public input. While the decision on DST is not a matter of life or death, it certainly reflects a growing concern that elected and appointed officials are out of touch with their constituency. I encourage Gov. Mitch Daniels to call up his friend, President Bush, and suggest that the U.S. Department of Transportation permit public hearings on Eastern versus Central time zones. Alan Rivers Carmel |
